Taking Off

The American Bald Eagle

Each year, from November to March, more than 1,000 bald eagles migrate to the state, joining Colorado's roughly 200 nesting pairs. Having only observed eagles at the zoo while living in Philadelphia, seeing one in the wild was very exciting. Watching these beautiful birds you can understand why they are the symbol of this great country. Strength, power, beauty, grace… All of these words go through your mind as you observe them.

In this photo I was able to capture the raptor taking off. This incredible creature was on the hunt for a unmatched rodent in the field. You can see the focus and determination on the eagles face in this picture. The hunt was a success. It was a great day for the eagle, but not the best day for its prey.
