Marmot Attitude
Don’t Talk To Me!
Prior to moving to the beautiful state of Colorado, I had the pleasure of visiting a few times, each trip igniting my passion for photography even further. Like any dedicated photographer, I conducted my research thoroughly. I delved into questions like: Where should I shoot? What subjects should I focus on? Was there something special that I truly wanted to find and capture on camera? During that extensive research, I repeatedly came across enchanting pictures of these fluffy, adorable, beaver-like creatures that I later learned were called Marmots. I firmly told myself that I absolutely needed to get some captivating pictures of these cute, endearing animals.
On my second trip to majestic Colorado, I found myself hiking along an alpine trail in Rocky Mountain National Park, perched at an impressive elevation of 11,000 feet. The terrain was rough and rocky, yet undeniably beautiful all around me. While I paused for a quick snack along the trail, I was pleasantly surprised by an unexpected visitor. There it was – a Marmot – approaching curiously. I quickly stopped eating and grabbed my camera, filled with anticipation. Having grown up with dogs that often invaded my space when it came to food, I started to realize that my cute, fluffy friend was most certainly hoping to share in my snack. I managed to capture a few photographs that I was quite pleased with, and as I continued my hike, I noticed that the Marmot had decided to join me.
Eventually, I found some really beautiful light that illuminated the trail, perfect for getting a great picture of my new furry companion. We paused for a moment, and it seemed he had noticed that my snack had vanished. No matter what I did to get his attention, he stubbornly refused to look at me. With his nose pointed up in the air, he turned away in what I can only describe as utter disdain. I took his picture anyway, and it has since become one of my favorite images. Not just because it turned out sharp and the lighting was ideal, but because it truly captured the amusing attitude that this charming animal was trying to convey. I offered my apologies for not sharing my snack and continued on with my hike, chuckling at the delightful encounter.
